The Trustees
Richard Compton-Burnett (MA Law. Businessman, Hampshire)
Richard Compton-Burnett is married to Abigail and they live in Hampshire with their four young children. Richard and Abigail very much enjoyed a brief studying time at Regent ten years ago as what was essentially a second honeymoon! After twenty years in investment banking and venture capital, Richard now runs a foster care agency organisation that operates across most areas of England and currently looks after about 500 foster children. Richard has always been very active in sports and now spends much of his weekend and family time responding as best he can to sporting demands made by the children.
Carolyn Scriven (DipCS ’88. Editor, London)
Carolyn Scriven, married to John, is mother to two teenage girls and lives in Bath (Jane Austen country), the family having moved from London in 2008. Working under her maiden name of Armitage, Carolyn is a freelance Commissioning Editor for different organisations and charities including Bible Society, after a career in commercial publishing which included being Director of Hodder & Stoughton Religious Books. She is also an author of four books. Her hobbies include walking, playing the piano, and reading. Her Regent experience was more than 20 years ago, but it still counts as one of the happiest and most influential times in her life, helping to shape choices, work and ministry. Friends made are still important, a special bond having been forged in the unique Regent community.
Peter Shaw (DipCS ’71, MCS ’74. Civil Servant, London)
Peter Shaw was a Director General in the UK Government before moving into leadership development, executive coaching, and writing. In addition to his work with Praesta Partners, a specialist coaching firm, he is a Visiting Professor at Chester University and at Newcastle University Business School, and has led workshops across five continents. He has written over ten books on leadership.
- Sheila Thomas (MA Christian Spirituality. Development Officer, Bromley)
Sheila Thomas has an MA in Christian Spirituality from Heythrop College which is part of the University of London. She is also a trained Spiritual Director and works part time as a Development Project Manager in Social Housing. Her passion is in encouraging people to develop their friendship with God and to come to know themselves better through prayer. Having had her own walk with God enriched through the practice of contemplative prayer, she loves to introduce this discipline to Christians for whom this is new. In addition to practicing as a Spiritual Director she teaches in Christian spirituality and leads small groups in listening to and responding to God. She also teaches literacy and numeracy as a volunteer at a Young Offender's Institute and she's involved in Debt Advice through a local charity.
